Spring starts in the Maine Outdoors
No it is not all that warm yet and there are only pussy willows in bloom. But the birds have all shown up all at once. There was a flock of robins on the lawn and the geese and ducks are flying over head steadily in the morning. I have commented before that we seem to be on some kind of a flight path for ducks in the early morning. I watch bunch after bunch pass overhead when I walk out to get the newspaper around dawn.
I have also been presented with a flock of opportunities all at once and am trying to sort through them. A nearby college has asked me to consider serving on their board of trustees (I am honored and flattered) and I have been approached about serving as the president of the local chamber of commerce. Since my plate is already pretty full and neither of these opportunities comes with a paycheck the decisions are not easy. Especially given that I already serve on two volunteer boards that take some time and effort. I had made a rule that I could only serve on three at any one time and even that seems like more time than I have to give at the moment. I don’t know what I will do in the end but I do like having opportunities to consider.
I am mulling all of this as I begin the transition from full time lobbyist to full time guide. A transition that is always pleasant and full of anticipation for the coming season. Not to mention a less formal wardrobe. I hear from clients further south when the stripers have started to run in their areas which helps to get me thinking about the coming season.
